Catherine J

Catherine J is a sixty-five-year-old female who is a stomach cancer survivor. Although her Cancer is in remission, she continues to take medication to prevent cancer from returning. She suffers from numerous chronic illnesses. Catherine had to return to work part-time as a CNA to pay her mounting bills which are not met by her small disability check of only $599 a month. She recently learned that she may lose her Medicaid because she is working part-time to supplement her small disability check. Catherine says, “You scuffle and people try and bring you down.”  Referring to her receiving notice that she may lose her benefits. Not only is she facing the possible loss of benefits, but Catherine also received a bill from an ambulance service in the amount of $5,000. The ambulance carried her less than fifteen miles and used no oxygen or other equipment during her transport. Without her Medicaid, Catherine would not be able to obtain treatment for her chronic illnesses. She would suffer immensely and possibly her Cancer would return due to lack of treatment.
