Matt
Approximately ten years ago, Matt thought he had it all. A great wife, two adorable sons, and a great job. Life was good, and he was happy! Little did he know, his life was about to shift.
Throughout the tests of time, Matt’s marriage didn’t make it. But he has found love again with his current girlfriend. One of his children is in transition now, which requires constant medical appointments as she undergoes Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). His youngest also has some health challenges due to a rare medical condition that requires constant monitoring and check-ups. Matt knew that having kids was expensive, but he never realized how pricey specialized healthcare could be. He wanted to give his children the world, but his paycheck could only stretch so far. Luckily, his former wife applied for Medicaid for their children, which made all the difference in the world.
A few years after his divorce, Matt obtained full custody of his children. His days are filled with work, love, homework, and getting his children to their doctor’s appointments. Matt’s days are long, but rich! He is grateful that Medicaid has been there to help his family meet their unique healthcare needs because “medical care is expensive!”
Looking back, Matt realizes he wasn’t really prepared for all the changes that his young family would go through in their future. However, he can proudly say, with the help of Medicaid, he and his children are in a good place and looking forward to a happy and healthy future. Matt believes that these challenges ultimately shaped him into becoming a better father, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
