Story Collective

Now is your chance to tell your own story about how you use Medicaid to keep you and your family healthy.

Richard

Richard

Richard defies the myth that people on Medicaid in Arkansas do not work.  Although Richard does not have a job where he goes to regularly for eight hours a day, he does perform different outdoor jobs for people in Marianna and Lee County. He doesn’t just do this some of the time, he performs these jobs as often as he possibly can.

Richard started receiving Medicaid sometime between 2012 and 2013.  He recalls that in 2015, he found a knot on his neck.  Richard had a biopsy done in Jonesboro and thankfully it was not cancerous.  Other than this, he has had no serious medical problems.  Richard does not take any medications.  He says that he lives a “natural life”.  This simply means that he tries to eat healthy foods and stay in shape by doing physical work and walking.

Medicaid for Richard is only on an as needed basis.  He is thankful that he has it and would not want to lose it because he knows with age, comes medical problems.  For now, he will just carry on and be thankful for being in pretty good health.
