Tina
Tina feels that the Medicaid program does not do what it should do. She says that Medicaid only pays half the cost of her medication. She has been denied payment for certain medications. She was placed on different medications to control her diabetes; most were denied, except the medication she is taking. She is now taking Metformin (Janumet) which controls her diabetes. Tina was without her diabetes medication for a month until her doctor found a diabetes medication that Medicaid would pay for. As a result of not having her medication she was sick for a week. This could have been damaging to her health in the long term.
Tina is happy that she has Medicaid but always worries that she may not have to be without medication again because Medicaid refuses to pay for needed medication. Tina recalls one positive experience, Medicaid largely covering the cost for her glasses. She recalls that she only had to pay $2.00 for them. Diabetes can affect the eyesight and she is more than happy to have glasses to improve her eyesight.
